Lord Lieutenant of Dorset becomes Patron for Acts Fast

Angus Campbell, the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset has agreed to become a Patron for the Bournemouth-based charity, Acts Fast. The charity provides support for victims of child sexual abuse, and their (non-abusive) family. For Dorset-born Campbell, this appointment adds to the already impressive list of services to the local community. He was leader of North Dorset District Council from 1999 to 2003 and led Dorset County Council from 2006 to 2013. He was appointed Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of the County of Dorset in January 2014.

On appointment, Angus Campbell said “As Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Dorset I have agreed to become Patron for the Acts Fast charity because I feel it is so important to recognise the wider victims of child abuse.  It is vital in such cases to provide understanding and support for those parents, carers and family members who are the secondary victims in such cases.  This support will, in turn, help and increase the future life chances of the child involved.”

Mandy Gulliver, Acts Fast founder and CEO, said “Acts Fast is extremely proud to announce that the Lord Lieutenant has agreed to become our new Patron. We feel extremely privileged that he has agreed to represent the crucial work that we do”

Dr Andrew Mayers, a psychologist at Bournemouth University and Chair of Trustees for Acts Fast, said “It is a huge honour for us that someone as prominent as Angus Campbell has agreed to be our Patron. As a new charity, we will benefit from having a figurehead with such respect and influence across Dorset. We hope to build on that to support more families to cope with the impact of child sexual abuse, and help them rebuild their shattered lives.
