AN AFTERNOON EXTRAVAGANZA OF MUSIC - WITH A CONSCIENCE...
Calvin Glen, one of Dorset Mind Charity's four youth ambassadors, and Strawberry Fields are proud to announce an exciting musical fundraising afternoon, all in aid of mental health.
Billed as featuring some of the best singers on the South Coast, 'Sing for the Soul' will be held in the Overcliff Lounge Bar of the Suncliff Hotel in Bournemouth, on 4th September, between 1-4pm. The prestigious hotel is accustomed to hosting live entertainment, but this is going to be special.
The afternoon event is being held in aid of Dorset Mind, the pan-Dorset mental health charity. This is a cause very special to Calvin, as he explains 'As someone who has previously had mental health issues I know how important it is to have services available to help you in a time of crisis. It is also important to me because music has helped me cope with life, so it seems fitting that I use 'Sing for the Soul' to draw other people together for a positive reflection on mental health issues!'
The afternoon event promises to raise money and awareness of Dorset Mind, and will help provide a much-needed boost to their Youth Services Appeal – which aims to raise £55k towards support services for young people with mental health issues across Dorset.
Dr Andrew Mayers, a psychologist at Bournemouth University, is Patron for Dorset Mind. He said “We are very grateful to Calvin for organising this event. It will help raise awareness about mental health and provide much needed funds. We will use this to run mental health support across Dorset. We receive no funding from Mind, the central charity, so any funds raised locally will be used locally”.
The final order of billing has yet to be confirmed, but already features Jenny Oag, Melissa Barton, Tara Flanagan, Evelyn Walsh, Felicity Bryant, Issy Whitlock, Tobias Fitton, Brothers Grimmer, and two of Dorset Mind’s ambassadors – Calvin Glen and Stacey Leighann!
The event is free and includes a raffle, but a donation on the door is asked for – please give generously!
